Last year gave me Edwyn Collins an unexpected concert highlight. More out of curiosity than genuine interest, I had watched the Scots at Bowlie 2 festival, at least initially, because very quickly I had packed the music was not long in the sympathetic artist and given me a wonderful concert. Previously I had
also the Cologne concert of Scots not on the screen, I had not noticed that it was moved, I had no interest to go. But the convincing performance in a post Curry Ketchup stinking Animation Hall of the Holiday Club in Minehead had taught me a lesson, so the evening in the garden city was to attend the match. When we arrived at half past nine in the hall was filled much better than I had expected. The age structure of the public filled but then again my prejudices, it was just as often, spectators and musicians were about the same age.
After a nice local opening act, which is believes will be a large number in London, played with Edwyn Collins illustrious opening act a good 80 minutes piece of his new album and his old mostly originating from the Orange Juice-time songs. Of course knew I previously that the unique experience of England with Teenage Fanclub than backing band and guest appearances by Ryan Jarman, Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy could not be reached. But even without these special moments of the concert was excellent. Contrary to our impression
the reconstruction was the opening act for not backing the bulkhead. The London-based musician had the tools, mounted and tuned, but left the courts but then another troop. Boz Boorer, Morrissey of the guitarist and songwriter, was not in the band. B
an Edwyn Collins' appearance in the Harald Schmidt Show a few weeks of the Rockabilly musicians had been playing keyboards and saxophone, Today, another man took over this position, Sean Read, I think. The band continues the guitarist Andy Hackett and Tom Edwards *, bassist James Walbourne and probably - I was not able to identify him correctly, but I have identified his face - Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) on drums. Most conspicuous figure in the lineup was certainly guitarist Andy Hackett, whose hair a tribute to Andy Brehme and Rudi Voller appeared to be young.
Although it is not the all-star band of Bowlie weekend was made allies Edwyn a very competent impression, so it was no embarrassment force that he had compiled for the Germany tour. Edwyn himself sat on a Box behind a music stand. He announced the songs short, usually only by naming names, but sometimes with another sentence ("that was my first single ..."). When he sings it is from the slow language in the announcements no longer there, especially with the thousands of high-and runtergenudelten A girl like you, I noticed how the same song Edwyn Here. Phenomenal how this man has fought back on stage!
I must confess that I like Edwyn last record Losing sleep so much that his earlier pieces have made in my favor a few steps back. However, the greater was the risk, as the various duets of the plate would work without their guest singer. Or Edwyn words before it dawns on me: "Ryan from the Cribs is not here But James on bass can sing it, too.."
** James sounded but only very reserved, almost shy, but the song was well under control - a highlight! In What is my role?, The biggest new hit, I was missing in the solo part Ryan Jarman has more. But when all could use or the song grew louder, was forgiven for that, and What is my role? For me the biggest hit of the evening. Other highlights included Humble, Rip it up, Do it again (the Franz Ferdinand cover ...) or Dying day. Ends was the set but with the official biggest hit A Girl Like You, Edwyn got to. After the end of his singing parts, he slowly walked off the stage while the band was still playing. In football, the replacement of the Stars in the 88th Minute.
The first addition disputed only Edwyn and bassist James on the acoustic guitar. It was beautiful, it was spectacular but once again thereafter. Namely, there was a very young man on stage wearing a colorful jacket with fur collar, like a cross between Mike Skinner and Edwyn Collins looked: Edwyn son Will. Together, the two were singing In your eyes, which, despite noticeable nervousness of the young Collins very nice and very sentimental (but not tacky) was!
