Owen Pallett, Eindhoven, 18:02:11

Concert: Owen Pallett
Location: Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, Cross Linx Festival
Date: 02/18/2011
audience: perhaps 200
Duration: 60 min
My main reason to go to Eindhoven Cross Linx Festival, was the appearance of Owen Pallett. After I had taken a while, the music of the Canadian liebenzulernen

violinist, the musician is now one of my favorite artists. That Efterklang and The National more be participants in the Linx Cross' would, was of course no disadvantage, and justified the trip. The Cross Linx festival takes place in four Dutch cities on four consecutive days. For us, from scheduling and geographical reasons, Eindhoven came into question. Having had already played in the cultural center Efterklang Effenaar (report to follow), the Festivaltroß marched through the pedestrian zone to Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, located in a shopping mall and is home to several classical concert halls. Owen Pallett

was scheduled in one of the smaller rooms, which was furnished and could accommodate about 300 spectators. Quite He was not filled at the beginning, was parallel to the large hall Sharon Van Etten, which had apparently become much more attractive. Owen Pallett does anyway very basic music. For the radio ear of Canadians is completely inaudible. As interested in culture, the majority of the festival audience, but not necessarily regular at indie clubs was, was well understood that the American singer / songwriter, the great hall was filled, while Owen Pallett was for a more manageable group of spectators.

Owens music is not (at first) catchy, missing because usually classic song structures. The musician based on his plays with really very simple means, he uses a violin, a keyboard and his voice. He builds -

we have described more often - the songs in layers on, it will first about some violin plucking, play them repeatedly, and has a rhythm. This is perhaps a violin track, or a keyboard melody, which is also recorded and played back repeatedly - are looped. Unlike many (also good) musicians who use this technology, this development process is the Canadians so homogeneous that no great preparation happens that disrupts the flow of the concert. Owen Pallett played a best Set off. His last record Heartland was released a year ago and formed the backbone of the concert. Since Heartland (created the first two under the name Final Fantasy) of his three albums is the greatest Hitdichte and to the sensation of the first two albums and EP A Swedish Love Story last September was played, had the appearance, despite the long duration of one hour no hangers - on the contrary, I would have listened to Canadians like much longer.

addition to my favorites This is the dream of Win & Régine, Midnight directives,

This Lamb Sells Condos and the two songs was Lewis a sound the best moment for me. Owen knocked namely some point on the ceiling of his violin. Instead of a knocking noise led to the an almost electronic-sounding, lashing tone that looped produced doubles "of disco beats, incredible how many ways can a violin sounds are apparently elicits! If you wanted to find a fly in the Loopsuppe what I want because I too often far too uncritically act then was the lack of a funny cover. Owen Pallett plays often very different-sounding versions of more or less known songs. It makes an awful lot of fun, to try to see. In Eindhoven none was there although strongly behind towards the end when the singer asked for an idea, somebody asked Owens Caribou Cover Odessa. The cover, which I had ever experienced came, unfortunately, no different. But this gives me an added incentive to me to look forward to his concert next week. Maybe then something about Lady Gaga?
