One wonders on how it should look in boom times. Should we book the tickets then 1 year in advance?
That shows by Owen Pallett
are sold out surprised me, though not in the least. The Canadian violinist is undoubtedly a great talent, maybe even a miracle child.
Before the spectators, however, qualify for the Violin Loopkünste and the blonde had arrived, at first a rather oblique opening act will be endured. Buke and Gass
played a mixed duo from Brooklyn Schrammel lo-fi punk who would have fitted into the opening for Scout Niblett or hole, but not here belonged.
Why has the two eingräumt over an hour playing time, and I had many a mystery. Especially Buke and Gass were the second opening act already, because at the very beginning had the great electric Popper Karaokake
(the French answer to Au Revoir Simone and Ladytron) played in Paris (for more detailed reviews see our archive) . And so not enough, during the renovation break before the concert Owen was even allowed the French cellist Gaspar Claus (photo) still fiddling like mad. I had seen the talented guys once before for a home show and know that he was several times by Vincent Moon (on the back left with the white shirt) filmed.
By 22 clock but finally Mr. Pallett. All alone with peaked cap, violin, keyboard and his pedals appeared
excelled at the Sympath * with the angelic voice and the amazing Zupfkünststückchen from the beginning. He held the high level in all cases (except for two botched loops, human) and only in the central part it was a little tough and tiring (which also determines my chronic fatigue was due), before he used it just after the hour to a furious finale and the intensity of his violin playing again increased. Himalayan high peaks have been climbed, Owen went into the hollow back, ran with his violin and down and gave everything once more. The audience clicked their tongues and stormy applause breaks out. Addition, then the very fine concert was already done. Do not ask me for individual songs, I know myself because at Owen Pallett lot less than my colleague Christopher, who rightly by the violinist says to the skies.
begs the question why Owen has played so late (normal is here 21 clock for the main group). Was he arrived as late there in the location, there were problems with transport, or what was the reason why with Buke and Gass was rushed to a non-planned second opening act on the innocent bystander, which was allowed as long play (!) As the headliner ? Questions, questions ... The high musicality of Owen Pallett, however, is unquestionable. I see and hear him again like!
* Sympath also because he, unlike his opponent Andrew Bird, and aloof introvert communicates often and smile spontaneously, in a pleasantly modest way with the audience ("Oh, you'll wonder how you came to the strange idea for a guy like I spend 20 euros) and not too serious. In the funniest scene of the evening he grabbed a bottle of white wine spontaneously (a Chardonnay, wine lovers like me soufflé) and openly drank from the bottle. Haha!
Note: the two photos were taken by Christopher and developed in Eindhoven. My coming soon.
